LED Display Manufacturing Process: Inside A Professional LED Factory

I will tell you about the LED display manufacturing process.

I will start with the materials and go all the way to the final shipment.

1. Raw Material Inspection (IQC)

We always begin with a strict check of the materials that come in.

Every single part that we get is looked at carefully before we start making things.

  • LED chips to make sure they are bright and work the way

  • PCB boards

  • IC drivers

  • Power supplies

  • Cabinet Materials

We do not use materials just to save money.

Stable Raw Materials are very important, for screen performance.

Raw Material Inspection and using materials is what we do to make sure our screens are good.

2. SMT Process is the part of making PCBs for LED modules.

This is what makes sure the quality of modules is good.

The SMT production process has these steps:

  • Solder paste printing

  • SPI inspection

  • High-speed component placement

  • Reflow soldering

  • AOI inspection

  • X-ray inspection

  • Testing

What happens in this stage of SMT Process is very important because it directly determines:

The rate of dead pixels in LED modules

How stable LED modules are

How long LED modules will last

If the SMT Process is not good it can cause problems with LED modules later on. A weak SMT Process can lead to failures in the future. The SMT Process is really important, for making LED modules.

3. LED Module Production

We start making LED modules after SMT.

Here are the main steps:

  • Automatic screw fixing

  • Filling glue for modules to make them waterproof

  • Installing a mask

  • Inspecting each module

  • Testing the modules as they age

  • Testing if the modules work properly

  • Cleaning and checking the modules one time

If a module is for outside use it needs to be protected from water (IP65/IP67).

Modules, for use need to be flat and have even color.

4. Cabinet Assembly (Structure + Electronics)

At this stage we put together the cabinet.

The cabinet assembly is a part of the process.

We have to make sure the cabinet assembly is done correctly.

Key processes:

  • Cabinet structure inspection

  • Module installation

  • Power supply and control system integration

  • Wiring

  • Waterproof cable connection

We check every connection in the cabinet assembly manually.

The cabinet assembly requires work.

Any wrong wiring in the cabinet assembly can damage the screen.

So we have to be very careful, with the cabinet assembly.

5. Aging Test (72 Hours Mandatory)

This is one of the important steps when we are talking about the Aging Test.

We run every screen for 72 hours without stopping.

The Aging Test is very important.

We test a lot of things during the Aging Test these are:

  • Brightness stability

  • Color consistency

  • Signal performance

  • Heat dissipation

The Aging Test is 72 hours long.

During the Aging Test problems with the screen will always show up.

We find the problems, during the Aging Test. We solve them before we ship the screens.

This is what we do during the Aging Test.

6. Waterproof and Reliability Testing

For LED displays we do some extra checks to make sure they work well.

These checks are important for the LED displays.

We do testing to see if the outdoor LED displays can withstand water and dust.

This test is called IP65 or IP67.

We also do a test to see how the outdoor LED displays work in humid air.

We check to see if the outdoor LED displays can handle very high and very low temperatures.

If we do not do these tests the outdoor LED displays may not work properly when we use them for projects.

This is a problem, especially, for outdoor advertising screens.

Outdoor LED displays are often used for advertising screens so we need to make sure they are reliable.

7. Final Quality Inspection

Before we deliver we check everything:

  • Make sure the screen is flat

  • Check that the color is the same everywhere

  • Look at each pixel

  • Test the signal

  • Products that pass move on.

8. Packing and Shipping

Then we get ready to ship.

We have two ways to pack:

  • Flight case for Rental LED Display.

  • Plywood case for fixed installations LED Screen.

We make sure it arrives safely anywhere, in the world.

Here's what you need to know:

A cheap LED display might skip steps

A good factory always does all the steps

Thats why:

  • Some screens break after 3 months

  • Some screens work great for 5+ years
